This Privacy Policy describes how Dollar a Day Meals, published by Dollar a Day Meals Media Co., handles personal information when you read our articles, subscribe to our newsletter, or get in touch. We keep data collection deliberately small and ask for your consent before running anything that is not strictly necessary to deliver the site.
Our aim is to be useful and honest about privacy at the same time. Where the law gives you rights over your data — under the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and similar rules — this page explains what those rights are and how to use them.
About this site and publisher
Dollar a Day Meals is owned and operated by Dollar a Day Meals Media Co., the data controller for the purposes of this policy. We are reachable for any privacy question by email at hello@dollaradaymeals.com.
Our editorial and data-handling operations are based in Austin, Texas.
Your data-protection rights
If you are in the EU, the UK, or another region with comparable laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Port your data to another service in a usable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.
To exercise any of these, email hello@dollaradaymeals.com. We respond within the timeframes required by law and will not charge you for a reasonable request.
California privacy rights
Under the CCPA and CPRA, California residents have specific protections. You may request disclosure of the personal information we have collected, ask us to delete or correct it, and direct us not to sell or share it. Dollar a Day Meals does not sell personal information and does not share it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of for sale — but we still honour Global Privacy Control browser signals and will not treat you differently for asserting any right. Requests go to hello@dollaradaymeals.com.
How we protect your data
We protect your information with appropriate technical and organisational measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, access controls so only authorised people can reach personal data, and reputable providers who maintain their own safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to keep risk low and to respond quickly if anything goes wrong.
How long we hold your information
Personal information is not kept indefinitely. Your newsletter email lives until you unsubscribe and is then purged; contact-form correspondence is held for up to two years in case you follow up; technical server logs are cycled out after about a month; and backups roll over within roughly ninety days. Once data is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected, we delete or anonymise it.
Our purposes
We use the information described above for a short list of well-defined purposes: delivering the newsletter to people who requested it; responding to enquiries; measuring traffic in aggregate so we can write better articles (analytics only, and only with consent); protecting the site against fraud and attack via our logs; and meeting any legal requirements that apply to us. We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal effects, and we do not sell it.
What we collect
Most visitors browse Dollar a Day Meals without ever handing over personal details. We only obtain information in these situations:
- When you subscribe, we keep your email address and opt-in timestamp.
- When you use the contact form, we keep your name, email, message and the time you sent it.
- When you consent to analytics, our analytics provider records anonymised usage statistics such as which pages are popular.
- Automatically, our web server writes technical log entries (IP address, requested page, browser and referrer) every time any site is served.
Complaints and supervisory authority
Should you feel we have mishandled your data, you may complain to your local data protection authority the Texas Attorney General's office. We hope you will contact us first at hello@dollaradaymeals.com so we can try to put things right.
Who we share data with
To run Dollar a Day Meals we rely on a few third-party services. Each acts as our data processor, is bound by a data-processing agreement, and may only use your data to provide the service to us. These include our hosting company (which keeps the site online and writes logs), Google Analytics 4 (aggregate analytics, consent-gated), and our email-sending platform (for the newsletter). We do not sell, rent or trade personal data with anyone.
We may also disclose information if compelled by a valid legal request, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
International data transfers
Some of our service providers operate outside your country, which may mean your data is transferred internationally — including to the United States. When that happens, we rely on lawful transfer mechanisms such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (with the UK Addendum where relevant) to keep your information protected to an equivalent standard.
Cookies at a glance
Dollar a Day Meals uses a minimal set of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies make the site work and do not need consent. Optional cookies — chiefly analytics — are blocked until you agree through our consent banner. Your choice is remembered in a cookie named cookie_consent, and you can change it any time via the cookie settings link in the footer. For the full breakdown, see our Cookie Policy.
Our lawful basis
European and UK data-protection law require a justification for processing personal data. We rely on your consent for newsletter emails and for analytics; on our legitimate interest in running and securing a publication for handling contact messages and writing server logs; and on legal obligation where a law compels us to keep or hand over records. Where we rely on legitimate interest, we have weighed it against your privacy and you may object at any time.
Children and minors
Our content is meant for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly gather information from minors. Parents or guardians who think their child has submitted personal data to us should email hello@dollaradaymeals.com so we can remove it promptly, in line with COPPA and the GDPR's protections for children.
Contact and governing law
To get in touch about anything in this Privacy Policy — or to make a data request — write to us at hello@dollaradaymeals.com. This policy is governed by laws of the State of Texas and is subject to the jurisdiction of the State of Texas, USA.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may change. When it does, we will post the new version here and update the date shown on the page; significant changes will be highlighted. We encourage you to review it periodically. This version is current as of 2026.
